OPERATION: Prison Anti-Corruption Unit target illicit items entering HMP Lindholme 🚨 |
||
|
A visible and intensive policing operation has returned to HMP Lindholme to apprehend anyone attempting to bring illicit and contraband items into the prison.
On a wet and miserable day, officers and staff from our Prison Anti-Corruption Unit carried out a day of action to stop anyone smuggling items, such as drugs, phones and weapons into the Doncaster prison.
The day of action supports the work carried out all year round by the unit and acts as a visible deterrent, with a strong policing presence in and around the prison throughout the operation.
More than 300 members of staff were searched upon entering the prison, and a number of vehicles were also checked for illegal items. With extensive measures and checks in place, there were no reports of criminal-based contraband, such as drugs and weapons, entering the prison on the day of action.
🗣️ Detective Sergeant Gareth Gent, who leads our Prison Anti-Corruption Unit, said: "Illegal contraband poses a serious risk to the stability of our prisons. Having drugs, weapons, and unauthorised communication through mobile phones inside prisons threatens to harm the progress of individuals attempting to rehabilitate during their sentences, which in turn threatens the safety of our communities.
"Prisons need to be free of crime to allow for successful rehabilitation and to create a system that reduces reoffending and makes our communities safer.
"We won't stop targeting those who threaten to commit further crimes inside our prisons, and if you are caught, you will be dealt with by the full force of the law."
